Turkish Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs, Veysel Eroğlu refuting Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Ali Rıza Alaboyun's statement that İğneada has been chosen for nuclear power plant.
"Many years ago some works done as to building nuclear energy in three cities of Turkey. Those were Sinop, Akkuyu, and İğneada. Our minister probably mentioned that. For now, nuclear power plants are being built in Sinop and Akkuyu, there is no effort not application to build nuclear power plant in İğneada."
"It is not national park site"
Eroğlu attending a mass opening ceremony in Sultandağı district of Afyonkarahisar province stated that the site where nuclear power plant work is being done is not within national park site.
"First of all, the works that are being done regarding İğneada are not within our protected area. Secondly, there is neither such a demand nor an application. The minister only stated that there are such efforts here.
I would especially like to emphasize that the site is entirely out of the protected area."
Alaboyun making evaluations to Anadolu Agency Editor Desk said Turkey's third nuclear power plant is planned to be built in İğneada area of Kırklareli province, and the talks with the firms about the plant are ongoing. (YY/TK)
