Lawyer Ergin Cinmen described
gendarmerie Master Sergeant Ünalır’s words that Dink’s murder was not a
terrorist act, but a law and order case as having grave implications. Hacı Ömer
Ünalır was one of the witnesses heard at the Trabzon gendarmerie trial on June 19.
Cinmen, who is one of the lawyers
of the Dink family in the murder case, said that if they saw this incident not
as a terrorist act, but a law and order case, then the people of Trabzon was in a big
Cinmen: It is interesting
that they did not know Dink before
Cinmen, who joined the
trial with Hakan Bakırcıoğlu, told Bianet that the recent statements by Şimşek
and Şahin confirmed that the gendarmerie superiors were warned about the assassination
plot, but they did still not take any precautions.
Reacting to gendarmerie
sergeant major Hüseyin Yılmaz’ statement that “When we investigated the matter
further, we found out that there was such a newspaper and such a journalist.
However, his name was not Krant, but Hrant”, Cinmen said that he found it
curious that none of the gendarmerie officials knew Dink.
“It seems that they will throw
the ball at each other”
Cinmen, who emphasized that
all this showed that the gendarmerie knew nothing about what was taking place
in Trabzon and that therefore the Trabzon people were in big danger, said that
from the way the statements were coming out, it was becoming clear that the gendarmerie
officers were going to blame each other for the murder.
“Those who work at the
terror section are claiming that the Dink murder is a law and order case and
therefore it does not concern them. The law and order people have not been
heard yet. It seems that they will throw the ball at each other and Dink’s
murder will be caught in the middle, not being assumed by anyone. What is even
more interesting is that none of them knew Dink.”
The next hearing of Dink’s
murder will be in Istanbul
on July 7. Two gendarmerie officials are on trial in Trabzon
for neglect” and two police officers are on trial in Samsun for having their picture taken with O.S.
right after he was caught. (EÖ/EZÖ/TB)
