Police authorities announced that they will open bids to purchase 100,000 new gas bombs and TOMA vehicles as their stocks were out after using 130,000 gas bombs to disperse Gezi Park Resistance protestors and some TOMAs had damages.
According to Milliyet newspaper, police gas bombs stocks exhausted massively during the interventions of Gezi Park protestors.
Police authorities said they need an addition supply of 100,000 gas bombs as Gezi Park protest might continue or new wave of protests might emerge.
Supply and Maintenance Bureau prepared to open bids. Police authorities said that they will ask the Finance Ministry officials to fund the purchase beside this year’s supply purchase of 150,000 gas bombs. If rejected by Finance Ministry, they will apply to Prime Ministry Covered Expenses budget, officials said.
Due to damages caused during Gezi Park Resistance, police authorities are also planning to purchase 45 TOMAs and 15 Shortland vehicles. (EKN/BM)
