A petition has been launched to erect a statue of the cat, Tombili, who was known for his pose of reclining on the pavement in the neighborhood in Kadıköy where he lived.
Tombili passed away on August 1, 2016.
The death of Tombili was announced with a photo reading “You will live in our heart” hung on the tree in Güleç Çıkmazı where he spent his life.
The petition voices the demand for erecting Tombli’s statue:
“As the Anadolu Kedi Projesi (Anatolia Cat Project), we demand that our volunteer sculptor fellows from Kadıköy Municipality make a sculpture of Tombili sitting on a pavement stone in Ziverbey in order to immortalize and instill the love of animal.
“As with the Hachiko statue in Japan, we wish that Tombili, who became mascot of the neighborhood for 11 years and whose reputation exceeded Kadıköy and spread to the whole world, be remembered and not forgotten”. (AS/TK)
