European Union and Council of Europe initiated a project for the purpose of “Improvement of Turkey’s Capacity for Freedom of Speech” with the cooperation of Justice Academy of Turkey (TAA). The commencement of the project was realized yesterday (on 11 December) with approximately 200 participators from the Academy, Ministry of Justice, Council of State, Court of Cassation, and representatives of Military Court of Cassation.
Planned to be finished on first of December 2016, the project of 27 months, whose budget is 2.8M Euros, intends to change the curriculum of TAA in accordance with the expectations of today, make the judges and prosecutors well-trained in terms of freedom of speech, so that they can implement the opinion of ECHR, and sustain these trainings on the purpose of protecting the right of freedom of speech more effectively.
Among the goals of the project, there are information campaigns and provision of effective cooperation among agents (non-governmental organizations, legal system, communication, bar associations, media etc.) of freedom of speech. (MUY/ÇT)
