The works of bianet taking child rights news as one of its priority areas has been deemed worth of award by Social Service Experts Association (SHUDER).
“Child Rights Prize” awarded in the name of the association’s former board member, Serdar Gözükara was given at Ankara University today. SHUDER Chair Bülent Karakuş bestowed the prize at the ceremony organized within the scope of 8th National Social Services Congress. Child Rights News Editor, Yüce Yöney took the prize on behalf of bianet.
The prize was bestowed to bianet for “taking the requirements of child rights into consideration during the process of news making, practicing right based and independent journalism aimed at protecting child rights and monitoring the practices”.
The prize given for the first time this year is planned to be granted to institutions and individuals that have meaningful works in the field of child rights.
About Serdar Gözükara
Gözükara born in Mersin in 1975 graduated from Hacettepe University, Department of Social Services in 1998.
He worked as social service expert at Social Services and Child Protection Institution in Gümüşhane, Urfa, and Ankara. He was on board membership at SHUDER.
He worked to spread child rights in this process and his entire life. He made some works at local and national level together with some NGOs as to the child rights.
He lost his life in a traffic accident on his return from a panel which he attended as a speaker in 2010.
A unit at Atatürk Çocuk Yuvası (Atatürk Nursery School) which was his last workplace has been named after him. (YY/HK)
