Non-governmental organizations (STÖ), which work for the benefits of children, drew attention to violations of child rights in Turkey and called for candidates to represent the children. It was stressed that children were mentioned barely in electoral declarations. “Child Rights Manifesto” prepared by around 200 STÖ and initiatives was announced.

Deputies of children
Human Rights Association made their demands related to child rights in Ankara.
“Children are ineffective and don’t play a part in election promises, political parties’ manifest, law or policy. We are making a demand for children to be represented by deputies working for the benefits of kids.”
Demands of Child Rights Manifesto
* Create a permanent mechanism with explicit responsibility for protecting and promoting children’s rights across all policy sectors in internal and external affairs.
*Exercise the budgetary control to ensure funds work in the best interests of children both internally and externally.
* Raise awareness within the parliament and among citizens about children rights and how policy, legislation and funds affect the lives of children.
* Make proactive efforts to engage children in decision-making, monitoring and evaluation through promoting their involvement with your parliament.
* Ensure that state institutions and organizations account for child rights.
* Give priority to create constitutions to protect children and their rights better.
* Ensure that rights on the international documents where Turkey is one of the parties are appropriate for children. (YY/BD)
