The statue of cat Tombili known for its pose of propping itself up with its arm, will be unveiled after its death.
The statute of cat Tombili which was known for its pose of propping itself up with its arm has been finished. At a ceremony to be held on October 4, the statue will be placed on the street where it used to live.
Cat Tombili which used to live on Güleç dead-end street of Ziverbey neighbourhood of Kadıköy district and became famous for its pose of propping itself up with its arm and looking at the horizon, had died on August 1, 2016.
A petition was started by the Anatolian Cat campaign group to erect a statue for the cat on the spot where it had lost its life. The petition was signed by 16,954 people.
Following Kadıköy Municipality's positive response to the campaign, animal-lover and sculptor Seval Şahin agreed to make the statue of Tombili on a voluntary basis for Kadıköy Municipality. "I'm making this work to increase sensitivity towards street animals", she had said. (OÜ/AS/DG)
