The awards night of the 23rd İstanbul Jazz Festival organized by İstanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) and supported by Garanti Bank has taken place at the yard of Austrian Cultural Office. The night has continued with concerts of UNLTD and UNinvited Jazz Band.
The Director of İstanbul Jazz Festival; Pelin Opcin has made the opening of the 23rd awards night of İstanbul Jazz Festival.
Ödemir Erdoğan's and Ergüven Başaran's plaquets have been handed by the Chairperson of İKSV; Görgün Taner and Pelin Opcin.
The night has continued with a concert of UNLTD which has reinterpreted swing classicals of Ergüven Başaran with jazz followed by the swing jazz band Uninvited Jazz Band created by musicians from several countries coming together.
Özdemir Erdoğan will present a repertoire composed of his classical works as well as other pieces from his new album which came out last year among other jazz classics at the concert on the Uniq Open Air Stage on Tuesday July 12 at 9 p.m.

Özdemir Erdoğan who has met jazz music by guidance of Eray Turgay, who is a member of the Orchestra of TRT Light Music and Jazz in 1960. He had enhanced his professional music career after he had classical guitar lesson between 1962 and 1964. He had found his first professional orchestra in 1962 and won the award of the best guitarist of the year. His works in 1968 had provided him the golden record award and more awards had came after. He had focused on hic composer side after 1970. He had reached large audiences with his Turkish music interpretation in 90’s. He had received the title of national artist in 1998. He had published an album which is “Türk Caz Tarihinde Işıksız Kalanlar”. |
About Ergüven Başaran |
He had started his music career through taking clarinet lessons from Tevfik Çelen and Salih Durutaş, alto sax lessons from Celal Bozsay, harmony lessons from Şerif Yüzbaşıoğlu in 1961. He, as saxophonist, has participated in various bands which have played an important role in making it possible for western music to set foot in Turkey. He had played on stage with artists such Ajda Pekkan, Nil Burak, Nazan Şoray. He has played in the Orchestra of TRT Light Music and Jazz founded by Süheyl Denizci and he maintained his position in this orchestra until 2002. He also has founded The İstanbul Saxophone Quartet |
More than 50 concerts in over 20 locations
The 23rd İstanbul Jazz Festival will welcome over 200 native and foreign artist including Kamasi Washington, Ibeyi and Jacob Collier who are the rising stars of the contemporary world music, as well as Joss Stone, Branford Marsalis, Kurt Elling, Ernest Ranglin, hugh Coltman, Cyrus Chesnut, Laura Mvula and Roy Hargrove in more than 50 concerts at over 20 different places.
This year in the festival, a series of concerts of European Jazz Club will be performed which bring jazz masters from Turkey and Europe together under special projects. During the festival concert series including collaborations of Ercüment Orkut and Marius Neset, Berke Özcan and Gunnar Halle with Erland Dahlen, Çağıl Kaya and Airelle Besson, Bulut Gülen and Yuri Honnin will meet the audience. The Festival will also present events like "Jazz in Parks" at Fenerbahçe Park and "Night Trip" at Kadıköy this year.
