The Animal Rights Monitoring Committee (HAKİM) has emphasized the animal rights violations taking place during the transportation of animals under bad conditions to Turkey.
The committee sent a letter to the European Union (EU) and European Parliament (EP) officials and said, “Don’t send animals to Turkey”.
The letter stating that hundreds of animals lose their lives or get injured due to starvation, thirst, bone and joint damages, read:
“We stress that right to live is invaluable and this cruelty cannot be justified just because countries and companies will make profit. We hope that you will take steps to prevent transportation and export of these animals whom you describe as ‘livestock’ in your legislation to Turkey”.
975 thousand living animals will be exported to Turkey by the end of 2018. (EKN/TK)
