Yalova Municipality gets administrative fine of 15,000 Euros for torturing animal at the municipality shelter.
After the footage displaying torture against animals at the shelter coming out last week, Yalova Governorship launched an investigation into the incident.
According to Süheyla Gözdereliler from the Doğan News Agency, Yalova Governorship Forestry and Water Affairs Directorship Nature Preservation and National Parks Branch fined the municipality 15,000 Euros following the inspection.
What happened?
The footage and photos displaying torture against animals at the shelter was revealed last week. Issuing a statement for the press in front of the municipality building, animal rights defenders filed a complaint concerning the incident.
In the statement, it was alleged that Yalova Municipality Veterinary Affairs Director Erkut Ferhatoğlu assigned municipality staff to kill animals on every Monday and Sunday and that the animals were ditched alive.
Yalova Mayor Vefa Salman, who is also a veterinarian, had declared that a disciplinary investigation was launched into Ferhatoğlu. (ÇT/TK)
